Readathon Prep: Challenge 1 roundup

Half-way through the week I needed to pick up my pace somewhat if I were to have any hope of completing 1000 pages by Monday. That worked out ok, though, because I had a lot more time to read over the weekend. So, to add the details:

The Fortune of War by Patrick O’Brian: 222-329, 107 pages.

The Surgeon’s Mate by Patrick O’Brian: 7-382, 375 pages.

The Ionian Mission by Patrick O’Brian: 7-26, 19 pages.

Lunch-blad 3/2017: 50 pages, Lunch-blad 8/2016: 48 pages and Lunch-blad 2/2017: 49 pages, total 147 pages.

Bobla by Siri Pettersen: 277 pages.

With the 402 pages from before, that makes a total of 1327 pages all together, so I can note challenge completed.

Readathon prep: Challenge 1

In addtion to the 30 Days of Readathon photo challenge (which is happening on Instagram daily, though I will post here as well in round-up posts), there are going to be a few more challenges, run in the Goodreads readathon group. Challenge 1 is to read 1000 pages between the evening of Sunday 24th September and the morning of Monday 2nd October (Pacific Coast time). I noted that I was on page 285 of Desolation Island in my sign-up comment, but I had already read quite a bit since the start of the challenge by that point. Still, I’ll see if I need to consider those 100ish pages or not at the end of the week.

So, here are the stats so far:

Desolation Island 285-325 = 40 pages

The Fortune of War 7-222 = 215 pages

Rammeplan for barnehagen (hey, it’s reading) 7-57 = 50 pages

Lunch-blad (comics):
2015/7 49 pages
2016/7 48 pages

So that’s 402, with three-and-a-half-ish days left. I need to step it up a little.

Yesterday was unintentionally busy, so I was one day late with my Instagram picture, but I’m all caught up now. Here’s 28-23 in the countdown.

30 Days of Readathon

Bout of Books

Even though the reason that I suddenly have a bit of time to read is not such a pleasant one, having time to read sure is. And since the start of my involuntary downtime coincides pretty well with Bout of Books 20, I may as well join.

Bout of Books

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda Shofner and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 21st and runs through Sunday, August 27th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 20 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

Bout of Books 18: Day 3 stats

Bout of Books 18

Busy day yesterday. Still, I managed to squeeze in 86 pages of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Which takes me up to 408 pages so far this week. So, not too shabby.

I didn’t get around to doing the challenge, but I showed off my most excellent new bookmark from Beedoo (Etsy) on Instagram:

This morning I came across Popsugar’s 2017 reading challenge. I printed out the list for this challenge two years ago, but never followed it up. Now I’ve printed out the 2017 list and will glue it into the Bujo along with the Read Harder list. Perhaps that will make it easier to remember. It’s a pretty good mix of quite random things, so it should be fun to try to find books to match.

Read Harder 2017

Despite never making it past the half-way point of the 2016 challenge, I will attempt the 2017 Bookriot Read Harder challenge. The list of task is just as (if not more) interesting as last year’s, and even if I don’t complete it will be a reminder to read a bit more diversely.

  1. Read a book about sports.
  2. Read a debut novel.
  3. Read a book about books.
  4. Read a book set in Central or South America, written by a Central or South American author.
  5. Read a book by an immigrant or with a central immigration narrative.
  6. Read an all-ages comic.
  7. Read a book published between 1900 and 1950.
  8. Read a travel memoir.
  9. Read a book you’ve read before.
  10. Read a book that is set within 100 miles of your location.
  11. Read a book that is set more than 5000 miles from your location.
  12. Read a fantasy novel.
  13. Read a nonfiction book about technology.
  14. Read a book about war.
  15. Read a YA or middle grade novel by an author who identifies as LGBTQ+.
  16. Read a book that has been banned or frequently challenged in your country.
  17. Read a classic by an author of color.
  18. Read a superhero comic with a female lead.
  19. Read a book in which a character of color goes on a spiritual journey.
  20. Read an LGBTQ+ romance novel.
  21. Read a book published by a micropress.
  22. Read a collection of stories by a woman.
  23. Read a collection of poetry in translation on a theme other than love.
  24. Read a book wherein all point-of-view characters are people of color.

Looking at what I read last year, I’d say 9 and 12 should be the absolute easiest, followed by 2, 6, 8 and 18. The rest I may have to consciously go in search of matches for. Which is, of course, part of the point. We’ll see how it goes.

OK, da, én utfordring

2015challenge

Bout of Books 9.0: Goals

BoB9.0-200x200Edit: I have a cold that won’t go away (I’ve basically been on-and-off sick for about a month) and my doctor has instructed me to spend the week in bed (well, on the couch, under a duvet), so I’m suddenly facing a lot more potential reading time than I would if I had to show up at work every day. Hence I’m upping my goals a bit, to actually challenge myself.

Time Devoted to Reading

I will be reading every day, aiming for an average of at least 100  250 pages a day.

My Goals

I’d like to finish and blog about at least four eight books, one two of which will be children’s books, to get the reading year of 2014 off to a flying start.

Books to Read

Definites:

  • The Twistrose Key by Tone Almhjell (started)
  • Himmelbjørnens skog + Som steinen skinner by Britt Karin Larsen (started the first one)
  • Vårofferet by Lars Mytting
  • The Thrift Book by India Knight

Backups:

  • Rydde ut by Helene Uri
  • The Story of Forgetting by Stephan Merrill Block
  • En kvinnes ferd gjennom India by Elisabeth Meyer

(I’ll add to this list.)

(I’ve used the goal post template on the help page.)

Read-a-thon

BoB9.0-200x200

Or is it read a ton? Well, ok, my usual rate of reading (average) is just over a book a week, and I could definitely do with a week of more intensive readfing, so here goes: I’m signing up.

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, January 6th and runs through Sunday, January 12th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 9.0 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team
