Happy birthday, Friday Five!
1. Who is your favorite singer/musician? Why?
I’m not sure I have one favourite, but for the sake of the argument… uhm… ok, Alanis Morissette. Because her lyrics are brilliant, her tunes are good and though Jagged Little Pill was a tough album to follow, I think Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie was very good (though definitely less accessible) and Under Rug Swept is possibly even better than Jagged Little Pill.
2. What one singer/musician can you not stand? Why?
Celine Dion. Urg. And Enrique Iglesias. He gives me the creeps.
3. If your favorite singer wasn’t in the music business, do you think you would still like him/her as a person?
How would I know? I don’t like musicians for their personality, I like them for their music.
4. Have you been to any concerts? If yes, who put on the best show?
Several. Best concert ever? Hm. I was impressed with Meatloaf, partly because though he gave the band a rest he stayed on stage throughout the whole show. Ole Paus is always good, as whatever he says in between the songs is usually as worthwhile hearing as the songs themselves (and that’s saying something).
5. What are your thoughts on downloading free music online vs. purchasing albums? Do you feel the RIAA is right in its pursuit to stop people from dowloading free music?
Right, yes. Whether it’s actually possible is another matter, and I think they’d be wiser to try and come up with a way of working with the technology rather than against it. Personally, though I have a Nomad Jukebox I tend to buy albums and rip them for my personal use rather than download. I have downloaded a few songs, but mostly ones that are hard to get hold of in the shop or where I’d have to pay “full price” (which in Norway is at least 20USD) for an album in order to get the one song I’m interested in.
