Some pictures from the new flat:
Now, problem areas:
- That carpeted wall. What were they thinking? Down it comes. Room will be painted white. Probably.
- Green walls: Will be white ASAP.
- Paneling: I hate it. Will consider tearing it down. Otherwise painting it white to blend with rest of wall. Probably tearing down, though.
- Window frames and mouldings: I don’t like it. You guessed it: Paint it white.
- Doors: Oh, the horror. A lick of paint would help, but I want the moulding gone, really, so I might try removing it on one door to see how much work it will take to make the door presentable.
- Kitchen: It’s ok, I guess. Long term we will probably want to remodel. I’m still tempted to paint it, but I might not bother if we’re going to tear it out in a few years. It’s not the first project I’ll tackle, anyway.
- Oh, and yes, those windows over the doors and wall. *Shudder* Not quite sure what to do there. Need to think. I suppose we could replace them with something “cleaner”.
Luckily, you do have a lot of books, which will have to go somewhere, being perfect to hide those walls. The previous owners clearly liked walls not to look like (interior) walls.
I thought there were no wardrobes? That’s what you wrote when you first got the place. What’s the bathroom like?
I sincerely thought there were no wardrobes. I have no recollection of them from the viewing. However, there they – manifestly – are. One less thing to buy :)
As regards the brick, we’ve examined it a bit more and it turns out it’s actually tiles meant to look like brick. So it’s possible to pull it down. Quite a lot of work, though. It goes on the list of “future summer projects”, as I’m thinking all those ledges on top of the bricks/tiles will be a dust trap of some magnitude. Some way down the list, though.
The bathroom is old but ok. I’ll see if I can get a picture snapped. It’s also quite small. Another future summer project is redoing it (or, rather, paying someone to redo it). We can move a wall and take a square meter or so off the nearest bedroom, making it somewhat more roomy.
