Interesting development in the same-sex marriage debate, Benton County in Oregon (US) have now banned all marriages until the issue has been settled by the relevant legislative authorities.

Sometimes I’m so proud to be an Oregonian. :p
You should be – I think it’s an excellent response.
They’re doing this supposedly because they want to be fair and treat everyone equally. So, if the state eventually determines that same-sex marriages are illegal in Oregon, then no one will ever again be able to get married in Benton county? Ridiculous. This is clearly not based on logic, it’s a protest based on an agenda. Very typical Oregon politics. But while sometimes absurd, they certainly keeps things interesting!
Well, theoretically, the state legislature will have to determine that refusing homosexuals marriage does not constitute discrimintaion (discrimination being unconstitutional). As far as I could gather what Benton is doing is refusing to act until it has been determined whether letting some people get married and some not is discrimination.
It makes sense to me. But then, I’ve always been a bit odd…
